Time to ReThink HS2

03.09.2019 – Leading environmental organisations have placed full page national press ad’s with the following message to our Government:

108 ancient woodlands are set to be damaged or destroyed by HS2. Along with hundreds of other precious wildlife sites. It’s time to stop and think. If the Government is serious about the Climate and Ecological Emergency we face it needs to act quickly and get on a different track.

I've just seen the 'HS2 - Instant Ancient Woodland' seed packet in the Mail, which is of course, a joke. The loss of our ancient woodlands is no joke though ... they are irreplaceable. HS2 is set to destroy over 100 ancient woodlands and hundreds of other precious wildlife sites, as well as enabling large-scale airport expansion at Birmingham, East Midlands, Leeds and Manchester Airports. The world has changed. Parliament declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency over six months ago. In the face of this emergency, HS2 is unacceptable as it is currently designed. It's time to #ReThinkHS2. Opposition to HS2 is now huge. All the major environmental groups are demanding a rethink ... see them at ReThinkHS2.org. Even The National Trust has written to Government to share their concerns. We must protect the woodlands already standing, as well as plant many millions of new trees. Any future leader must know that a large body of the public will not stand by and allow this destruction to happen and that we will stand for the trees.
